WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Director Explains if The Colorized Version Effects The Ending

Marvel Studios is going to be releasing a colorized version of Werewolf By Night for Halloween this year, and this version of the film will pay homage to the Hammer horror films of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

The director of the film, Michael Giacchino, recently talked about the movie and discussed how the color version of the movie impacts the ending of the Marvel Special. One of the concerns he had involved how the black and white film transitions to color at the end, would colorizing the whole movie affect that?

While talking to Marvel, Giacchino said: “I did have one concern, which was obviously in the black and white one, you have a big turn at the end when it goes to color. The intention there was that Elsa created a whole new world. The possibilities are endless. What’s she going to do with this new power she has?”

The director continued: “That was reflected in bringing color to a place that was for years a dreary part of her life. She was able to finally bring color to it. I was worried, how will that affect the storytelling if the whole thing is in color? … But after watching it, I still felt the same feelings. I still felt the same about everything. It’s certainly a different experience than in black and white, but it’s just a different experience. It’s just, as I said, a new way to experience that story.”

So if you were worried about that ending, don’t be.

“Now presented in vibrant color, Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night in Color takes place on a dark and somber night as a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic—a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster. Inspired by horror films of the 1930s and 1940s, the chilling special aims to evoke a sense of dread and the macabre, with plenty of suspense and scares along the way as we explore a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

The project is a throwback to the black-and-white horror films of the ’30s and ’40s. The story centers on a group of unusual suspects gathered together on a creepy night, and one of them is the Werewolf by Night. They find themselves in a position where they are forced to stay alive as the end of the night approaches.

Disney+ will debut the color version of Werewolf by Night on Disney+ on October 20, teasing that it now has "vibrant color."
