Marvel's WHAT IF...? Season 3 D23 Footage Goes Full on VOLTRON and New Characters Announced
During the Marvel Animation presentation at D23 this weekend, a new clip was shared for What If…? and it goes full-on Voltron! It was also revealed that the series will end with Season 3 and three new characters will be coming to the show.
Marvel previously shared an image of a Captain America mech suit. Well, in the clip that was shown at the presentation, all of the Avengers have mech suits, and they united to form one giant mech robot!
The footage starts with a retro old-school Avengers video featuring the Avengers and building up a story that leads to Hulk unleashing giant Kaju-like monsters on Earth.
The footage then cuts to the modern day Avengers in their Mech suits battling the giant monsters. As they do so, they combine to form a giant mech robot to take the creatures down.
Just imagine any Voltron action sequence where the team is fighting a villain and have to combine to finish the villain off once and for all. That’s what this footage was, and it was fun!
When talking about the series at the event, What If…?’s Brian Andrews said: “Going through Season 1 and 2, what you learn is how much the fans love these characters and stories. It gave us plenty of fuel.
He goes on to say that they are looking to take some big swings ands play in different genres: “We learned that we can take big swings. The wilder and crazier the What If…? got, the better the response. We really play with footage. Some Western stuff, some stompy robot stuff.”
As for the new characters that will be joining this final season, they include Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, Ironheart, and the White Vision.
I assume Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight), Dominique Thorne (Ironheart), and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) will return to voice their characters.
