Matt Reeves Confirms He's Ditching Ben Affleck's THE BATMAN Script and Starting From Scratch

We've heard unconfirmed reports that Matt Reeves was going to start from scratch with The Batman when he came on board. Well, the director has confirmed that he is indeed ditching the script that Ben Affleck, Chris Terrio, and Geoff Johns worked on so that he can do his own thing. I'm completely ok with that! When asked on MTV's Happy Sad Confused if he would be working with the original script he said:

"No, it’s a new story. It’s just starting again. I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be really cool.”

I think it's great he's starting over, especially with the direction that he wants to take the story. As we've previously reported, he's looking to do a dark noir-style film that will focus on the detective side of the Dark Knight. If all goes well, Reeves has an idea for a story arc that would span over the course of a trilogy of films.

There's no word on what story Reeves wants to tell, but he's said that he's reading all of the detective stories in the early Batman comics for inspiration. Who knows, maybe there will be some kind of announcement at Comic-Con regarding something about the film.
