Matt Smith Had a Funny Response After Learning Keanu Reeves Watched MORBIUS on a Flight
It's safe to say Matt Smith has a pretty realistic view of Morbius these days, and his latest comments about the movie are easily some of the funniest yet.
While appearing on Brittany Broski's Royal Court, Smith was caught completely off guard when Broski told him that Keanu Reeves had apparently been spotted watching Morbius during a flight.
The story has apparently been floating around for a while, though it was clearly news to Smith. His immediate reaction couldn't have been better…. "F*ck off! You are joking."
After collecting himself, Smith went on to explain how much he admires the John Wick star before Broski asked what he would normally choose to watch while flying. That's when Smith delivered another hilarious response.
"Not f*cking Morbius. My God, he must really have gone through the BA library to be getting to that. He must have been having a moment."
Smith played the film's villain, Milo, whose over-the-top dance sequence might be the most memorable thing to come out of the film, even if it wasn't exactly for the reasons Sony probably hoped.
These days, Smith seems more than happy to laugh along with everyone else, but shortly after the movie's release in 2022, he took a more measured approach when discussing the overwhelmingly negative reaction.
"Yeah, it was thrown under the bus. But you just have to roll with it. What else are you gonna do? It’s a film, at the end of the day, we’re not saving lives. For whatever reason, it didn’t quite work out and...It is what it is."
Morbius arrived in theaters as part of Sony's Spider-Man universe and was met with harsh reviews from critics. It currently sits at just 15% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, although general audiences were considerably kinder, giving it a 71% audience score.
Whether that audience score reflects genuine appreciation or years of internet memes and ironic fandom is still open to interpretation, but the movie's reputation has certainly evolved.
Sony even attempted to ride the wave of online attention by putting Morbius back into theaters, a decision that quickly backfired at the box office.
Even so, the film has managed to carve out an unusual place in comic book movie culture. Between the endless memes, ironic celebrations, and moments like Smith openly poking fun at it years later, Morbius has developed a strange cult following that probably wasn't part of the original plan.
And if Keanu Reeves really did spend part of a flight watching it, Matt Smith's reaction is more entertaining than the movie itself.
