Matthew Lillard Teases "Explosive" Final Season of DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN
Actor Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby-Doo, Five Nights at Freddy’s) joined the cast of Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again in its second season at Disney+ as Mr. Charles.
The character is a CIA operative who works below director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Mr. Charles was sent to work with Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), creating an illegal smuggling ring in NYC’s harbor.
It was revealed that Mr. Charles also recruits and/or coerces superpowered people into black ops service, including Defenders team member Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and, more recently, assassin Benjamin Poindexter, aka Bullseye (Wilson Bethel).
Mr. Charles is set to return in season three, which we recently found out will end the series, but Lillard assures fans we are in for an “explosive” end to the story.
In a recent interview with Comic Book, Lillard shared that while he was upset about the show’s abrupt cancellation, Lillard wasn’t worried at all about what they have accomplished with Season 3.
“I do think it’s in the hands of Dario [Scardapane], who is a great storyteller. I think that the show, this season, is going to be explosive, and is really going to rattle a lot of people’s expectations. I, too, am sad. It was a shocking move. I think that cast is incredible, and the storytelling is incredible, and I was disappointed, totally.”
Marvel seemed to be less discerning about the shows (and some movies) they produced a few years ago, and when they got the negative feedback from fans, it feels like they may have swung the pendulum a little too far in the opposite direction.
The cancelation of Wonder Man, as well as Daredevil: Born Again was kind of a surprise to fans. And it sounds like there’s some turmoil within the studio as Daredevil showrunner Dario Scardapane (who Lillard referenced above) has cut ties with Marvel amid the third season’s continued editing process.
Who knows what’s going on, or what the future of Marvel series will be, but it sounds like Daredevil will be going out on a high note. Hopefully it also goes out with some closure.
The series has not yet set a season 3 release date, but we are expecting it sometime in 2027.
