Melissa Joan Hart Says She Is Open to a SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH Reboot
Actress Melissa Joan Hart has had several hit TV shows in her career, starting with Clarissa Explains It All in the early ‘90s, then Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which ran from 1996-2003. She then went on to co-star in Melissa & Joey, and has gone on to star in many Lifetime Christmas movies since. A reboot of Clarissa Explains It All was in the works a few years ago, but has since fizzled out. Now, Hart says she’d be happy to come back as Sabrina Spellman, the formerly teenage witch.
In a recent interview with the Associated Press (via ComingSoon), Hart was asked about the potential of a new Sabrina the Teenage Witch series, and she responded:
“The answer to the Sabrina reboot question is, unfortunately, I can’t just point my finger and make it happen. There’s so much red tape. Who owns it? Who would pay for it? What network would it be on?”
Hart was then asked if she would be interested in making the series if it was a possibility, and she said:
“I would totally be interested if it was the right way to do it. I feel like so many of these reboots were done wrong, so many were rushed, so many were not well thought out. And the thing is, sometimes it’s just that the fans, they think they want it, but the fanfiction is so much better.”
I agree with Hart. I think some reboots are just cranked out, and they don’t even have a chance because the story is just not strong enough. I loved her series Clarissa Explains It All, so that sounds more appealing than a Sabrina series to me, but even then, you have to decide whether the magic of the original series can be recaptured, and if the story will make sense now. If the writers can make it happen, and the fan base is there, they should go for it.
