Michael B. Jordan Is All In on BLACK PANTHER 3's T'Challa II: "I Can't Wait!"

Marvel Studios dropped one of the biggest surprises of San Diego Comic-Con when it officially revealed the new actor stepping into the role of T'Challa II in Black Panther 3.

Along with confirming the film's December 2028 release date, director Ryan Coogler introduced David Jonsson as the son of Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa, setting up a brand-new chapter for Wakanda. While fans are still debating what this means for the future of the franchise, one familiar face couldn't be happier about the casting.

Michael B. Jordan, who delivered one of the MCU's greatest villains as Erik Killmonger, shared his excitement while attending the premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. When Entertainment Tonight asked what he thought about Jonsson becoming the next Black Panther, Jordan didn't hesitate.

"Oh, I love it. It’s amazing! I can’t wait, can’t wait!"

It's a short response, but it says a lot. Jordan has worked closely with Coogler for years, and seeing him immediately throw his support behind Jonsson adds to the growing list of Black Panther cast members welcoming the actor into the Marvel family.

Letitia Wright and Winston Duke have already shared their enthusiasm, and now Jordan has joined them. Even after Marvel's Hall H presentation, Black Panther 3 remains wrapped in secrecy.

Marvel hasn't confirmed the full cast, and despite months of reports that Denzel Washington has a role in the film, there was no mention of him during the panel.

That also leaves Jordan's own future in the franchise up in the air. Killmonger met his end in the original Black Panther, but Marvel already found a meaningful way to bring him back in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where he appeared to Shuri in the Ancestral Plane.

That scene proved the character can still play an important role without undoing his death, opening the door for another appearance if the story calls for it.

There's also another reason fans keep wondering if Jordan could return. Coogler has never directed a feature film without him. Most recently, the pair teamed up on Sinners, where Jordan earned Best Actor honors for playing the Smokestack twins.

From a story standpoint, another Ancestral Plane sequence could make perfect sense. Jonsson's T'Challa will likely wrestle with the enormous legacy left behind by his father as he takes on the mantle of Black Panther.

That's already shaping up to be an emotional journey, both within the story and as Jonsson follows in Boseman's footsteps. Revisiting Killmonger during that journey could also remind audiences of the lasting impact the character had on Wakanda itself.

After all, it was Killmonger's challenge to T'Challa's worldview that ultimately pushed Wakanda to open its doors and share its technology with the rest of the world. His influence didn't end with his death.

Of course, unless Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars introduces a multiversal version of Killmonger into the main MCU timeline, any role Jordan has in Black Panther 3 would probably be relatively small, much like his appearance in Wakanda Forever.

Jordan has an incredible screen presence, but bringing him back should serve the story instead of feeling like a nostalgic cameo thrown in just to get cheers from the audience. If anyone knows how to strike that balance, it's Coogler.

As fans continue to speculate about Jordan's possible return, one thing has become clear. The Black Panther family is fully behind David Jonsson.

His casting sparked plenty of discussion online, especially among fans who felt Shuri's time as Black Panther was cut shorter than expected after leading Wakanda Forever and appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.

Those conversations aren't likely to end anytime soon, but seeing so many of the franchise's stars publicly support Jonsson should make his transition into the role a little easier.

Taking over as Black Panther comes with enormous expectations, and Jonsson is stepping into one of Marvel's most meaningful roles. Fortunately, it looks like he'll have plenty of support from the people who helped build the franchise from the very beginning.
