Michael Cera Joins Wes Anderson's Next Film Project
As Wes Anderson's upcoming film Asteroid City is about to be released, the filmmaker is already moving forward with his next film project, and according to Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic podcast, Michael Cera has already been cast in the film. He said:
“I am told by reliable sources that Wes Anderson has begun casting his next movie and that the first cast member is, in fact, one Michael Cera. Michael Cera to star in Wes Anderson’s movie for real this time.”
Cera was attached to star in Anderson’s new Asteroid City, but he ended up not doing it. I’m actually surprised that it took this long for Cera to join a Wes Anderson movie because they are the kinds of films that he would fit perfectly in. When pressed for more information about Anderson’s next project, Sneider said:
“I don’t have a title. I don’t have a logline. I got nothing. All I know is that Michael Cera, who he tried to get in Asteroid City, is going to star in what will be his next film.”
After Astroid City is released, Anderson has another film ready to go with The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. Then there’s this mystery project. I’ve been a fan of Anderson’s work ever since Bottle Rocket, and I’m looking forward to seeing what this next movie will be.
Astroid City is set in a fictional American desert town in 1955. In the story, “the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.”
That world-changing event is the arrival of an alien. I sure do enjoy Anderson’s filmmaking and storytelling style and he always brings together a great ensemble cast! This one includes Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, and Tom Hanks, with Sophia Lillis, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, Fisher Stevens, Rita Wilson, Jarvis Cocker, and Jeff Goldblum. I’m surprised Bill Murray isn’t in it!
Asteroid City will be released in theaters on June 17th, 2023.
