Michael J. Fox Shares He Thought of a ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD Scene When He Decided To Stop Acting

Michael J. Fox has been doing a lot of interviews recently thanks to his upcoming documentary film Still: A Michael J. Fox Story, which is a must-watch movie! During a recent interview with Empire, Fox opened up about his decision to stop acting for good due to his Parkinson’s disease.

That hard decision came during a time when he was filming scenes for the television series The Good Fight, and during this time he was really struggling to remember his lines. The actor revealed that when he made the decision to stop acting, he thought of a scene from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He said:

“I thought of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. There’s a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character can’t remember his lines anymore. He goes back to his dressing room and he’s screaming at himself in the mirror. Just freaking insane. I had this moment where I was looking in the mirror and thought, ‘I cannot remember it anymore. Well, let’s move on.’ It was peaceful.”

The scene Fox references here is one of the more memorable sequences in the movie as Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) has a wildly over-the-top meltdown over forgetting his lines for the film he was shooting, and in a fit of rage he trashes his trailer. When previously talking about this epic meltdown scene, Tarantino said:

“It wasn’t in the script actually, so we never rehearsed it or anything. Leo had a whole thing. At some point it was like, ‘Look, I need to f**k up during the ‘Lancer’ sequence, all right? And when I f **k up during the ‘Lancer’ sequence, I need to have a real crisis of conscience about it and I have to come back from that.’”

Fox has had a hell of an awesome career, and when talking about how people see him as a hero for living opening with his disease, he said: “It’s just a nice way of people letting me know they are moved by my acceptance of things and by the way that I’ve tried to make a difference. But no matter how much I sit here and talk to you about how I’ve philosophically accepted it and taken its weight, Parkinson’s is still kicking my ass. I won’t win at this. I will lose. But, there’s plenty to be gained in the loss.”
