Mike Colter Confirms It Does Feel Weird To Go Back to Playing Luke Cage Years After His Run On Netflix
Mike Colter originated the character of Luke Cage in the Netflix series of the same name, where he crossed over with the other Defenders- Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. Now he is returning as the character in Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again, and he does admit it does feel strange to play Luke Cage again after all these years.
In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Colter talked about what it was like to step back into the role and reunite with his old co-stars:
“It feels like you're in some kind of a time warp, because you're not sure what year it is. And this is so long ago when we started this, and we're like, 'Wow, we're still doing this.' It's like, 'Oh, this is it.' It feels so interesting to be with the same people, even though you've stopped for years and you come back, and then you feel like it's the same, like you're doing the same thing or nothing's changed. I think it's really fun to still be able to play the same characters or still have the opportunity to revisit these characters and add more to the story.”
He went on to talk about how it’s weird that after years of talking about the possibility of returning, it has finally happened. While it’s a dream, it’s also a logistical stunt to pull off, as he also stars in another series, the CBS/Paramount drama, Cupertino.
“Oh, I mean, it's an embarrassment of riches. I was already supposed to do Cupertino, of course. You know, everything happens; when you're doing something, there's always something coming down the line. It's like, 'Oh, you're busy. Guess what? We got something else for you to do.' So it's always that kind of thing. It's like, it's great, but it's always the same time, it's like either doing nothing or doing too much.”
It’s awesome that Colter was able to work out his schedule to do both of these projects, especially with the news that season 3 will be the show’s last. I look forward to seeing how this series ends, and seeing the Defenders reunited one last time.
