Mike Flanagan’s CARRIE Series Officially Ordered at Prime Video
Prime Video is officially diving into the blood-soaked high school halls of Stephen King’s Carrie with a brand-new eight-episode series from horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan.
This marks Flanagan’s fourth King adaptation, and if his past work (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) is any indication, we’re in for something special that cuts deep.
Flanagan will write the series, act as showrunner, and direct select episodes. As always, he’s joined by longtime creative partner Trevor Macy, who’s onboard as executive producer.
The project is being described as “a bold and timely reimagining” of King’s 1974 debut novel, and production kicks off this summer in Vancouver.
Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement: “Carrie is an iconic story that has withstood the test of time with continued cultural relevance. With Mike Flanagan at the helm and the accomplished team assembled including executive producer Trevor Macy, this provocative series is sure to captivate our global customers.”
Currently, Curse of Chucky star Summer H. Howell is in talks to take on the lead role of Carrie White.
Carrie centers on a painfully awkward teenage girl raised in isolation by her fanatically religious mother. Following her father’s unexpected death, Carrie enters public school for the first time where bullying, emotional trauma, and her strange telekinetic abilities collide in horrific fashion.
This new take joins a long line of adaptations with Brian De Palma’s 1976 film, the 2002 TV version directed by David Carson, and Kimberly Peirce’s 2013 remake. But with Flanagan steering the ship, it’s safe to assume we’re headed somewhere fresh and emotionally charged.
No release date has been announced yet, but production is gearing up fast, so expect more details soon.
