Mike Myers Teases AUSTIN POWERS 4 Saying "This One Is More From Dr. Evil's Point Of View"
Back in June, Emmy winner Mike Myers, best known for his time on SNL, and his roles in the Wayne’s World, Shrek, and Austin Powers franchises, confirmed he is returning for Austin Powers 4.
Now, he’s giving us a small bit of info, teasing the focus of the film, and that’s the franchise’s villain- Dr. Evil, also played by Myers along with the title character.
In an interview with Hawk Koch for Hollywood Insiders, Myers confirmed that this story focuses more on Dr. Evil, saying, “Oh, well, there is going to be more Dr. Evil.” The 63-year-old revealed that the latest script focuses on Dr. Evil and his perspective. The actor said, “This one is more from Dr. Evil’s point of view so far.”
Talking about the character, Myers said, “Yeah, it’s a very fun character to do. We just did a commercial from Dr. Evil’s point of view. We’ve actually done two commercials with Dr. Evil, which is super fun.”
Myers revealed the studio had an unexpected reaction to Dr. Evil when he was making the first movie. Initially, Myers said, “The funniest thing is I found out that it’s almost 50 -50. People like Dr. Evil as much as they like Austin Powers.”
He then revealed, “One of the craziest things is one of the first studio notes that, after a screening (of the original), was, Less Dr. Evil, people don’t like him because he’s mean to Austin.
“And I go, ehhh, it got laughs. I mean, I don’t think it’s one of those movies where it’s bad guys-good guys. It’s, you know. So that was one I had to kind of navigate through,” Myers added.
There’s no word yet on when Austin Powers 4 will be released, but it sounds like it’s moving forward and we should hear more soon.
