Neil Gaiman Says He Already Has a Story Plotted Out for GOOD OMENS Season 3
While we continue to wait for Good Omens Season 2 to premiere on Prime Video, Neil Gaiman has revealed that he’s already plotted out the story for Season 3. He was able to do this thanks to the work he did with his late collaborator Terry Pratchett.
The first season of Good Omens was originally planned as a limited series because there was only one book to adapt. But, when the series became a big hit, Prime Video greenlit a second season, and Gaiman jumped on board to help bring it to life.
In a recent interview with SFX magazine, Gaiman shared that he never intended Season 2's arc to be the second installment. He and Pratchett had worked on a sequel for the fantasy comedy, but the upcoming season we’re waiting to watch is not the story they came up with. Instead, Gaiman came up with a different story that could serve as a connection between the first season and the third season, if it happens. Season 3 would tell the sequel story that he and Pratchett came up with. Gaiman explained:
"Because the hypothetical season three exists, there is a story that is there, and I didn’t feel that we could drive straight from season one into that. I knew what the stakes were. I knew what the parameters were. I also knew that I had David [Tennant] and Michael [Sheen]. I had the angels from plot number one. I had demons from plot number one. And with anybody that I wanted to bring back, but didn’t have room for right now, I did not have to bring them back as themselves."
Well, I haven’t seen Season 2 yet, but I’m already hoping that we get to see Season 3!
This series follows the story of Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), “an angel, and Crowley (David Tennant), a demon, who have formed an unlikely friendship spanning 6,000 years and have grown fond of life on earth. However, the end of time grows near with the approaching Armageddon and they must now join forces to find a way to save the world.”
The new six-episode season will “explore storylines that go beyond the original source material to illuminate the uncanny friendship between Aziraphale, a fussy angel and rare book dealer, and the fast-living demon Crowley. Having been on Earth since The Beginning, and with the Apocalypse thwarted, Aziraphale and Crowley are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho when an unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery.”
In the story, “Aziraphale and Crowley are getting back to normal, living in London among mortals, when a new angel—Muriel—shows up unexpectedly at their doorstep. The angel (and new angel) and demon will have to solve a mystery before they can get back to their domestic lives together.”
Good Omens Season 2 is set to hit Prime Video on July 28, 2023.
