Netflix Has Unveiled Their Slate of Upcoming Anime Titles

We recently saw the first teaser trailer for Netflix’s Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, but that’s only the beginning of what the streaming service has in store for anime fans. Netflix recently revealed their slate of upcoming titles and I think fans will be excited for some of these. I’ve included the trailers for all the anime except SAC_2045. I’ve also included the synopsis and art for each of the series below.

Levius – November 28, 2019

The year is 1842 of the New Era. Five years have passed since the Fosanian Conflict, a dispute for territorial drilling rights of Agartha water, came to an end. It is an era where “hypersteam” is used to power a variety of things, and the martial art of metal boxing, where machines are fused with the human body for combat, is at the height of its prosperity.

The story follows Levius; a young man whose parents became casualties of war. He is taken in by his uncle Zack, and it is there that Levius begins to immerse himself in the world of metal boxing as if led by fate itself, and his innate ability for the martial art blossoms.

Levius rises up the ranks to Grade 3, taking down his formidable rivals one by one, as a mysterious man by the name of Dr. Clown watches over him, his lips curled up into an audacious smile. Meanwhile, memories of the war continue to haunt the depths of Levius’s mind...

Now, Levius must take the fight for his destiny into his own hands!

With the casualties of war still haunting him, young Levius uses his prosthetic arm to take his fight into the brutal world of Mecha Boxing. Levius premieres November 28, only on Netflix.

High school student Kusuo Saiki has supernatural powers including telepathy, psychokinesis, fluoroscopy prediction and so on. The strongest power actually brings misery for him. Therefore he seals his superpowers when he is in front of others and tries not to stand out or get involved with people. But, for some reason, his friends, families and all living creatures always gathered around him then something unexpected happened.

Being an esper seems cool on TV, but in Saiki Kusuo's life as a normal teenager it's a real drag. The hit comedy manga returns in a new anime series! The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: Reawakened premieres December 30th, only on Netflix.

This anime feature spin-off, set in the same universe of the Netflix original live-action sci-fi series (second season in production from Skydance Television), will explore new elements of the story mythology.

Cagaster of an Insect Cage – 2020

Set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious disease “Cagaster” turns people into giant murderous insects, this manga-based series follows the struggle of a young couple to stay alive.

Eden – 2020

The upcoming sci-fi fantasy series Eden is set thousands of years in the future, where a city known as “Eden 3” is inhabited solely by robots whose former masters vanished a long time ago. On a routine assignment, two farming robots accidentally awaken a human baby girl from stasis questioning all they were taught to believe -- that humans were nothing more than a forbidden ancient myth. Together, the two robots secretly raise the child in a safe haven outside Eden.

The series is directed by Yasuhiro Irie and produced by Justin Leach, with character- and lead concept designs by Toshihiro Kawamoto and Christophe Ferreira featuring a screenplay by Kimiko Ueno. Clover Xie is serving as the background art director and Kevin Penkin as music composer. The 4-episode original anime series will be produced by Qubic Pictures and CGCG.

Thousands of years into the future, there are no more humans. Only robots live in the mechanical metropolis, "Eden 3". Or so they thought... One day, two farming robots find a young human girl in the city. The decision they make will change everything...

Created by Masamune Shiro, the sequel of much acclaimed Ghost In the Shell SAC series has come back as a full 3DCG anime series. Directors Kenji Kamiyama, Shinji Aramaki and SOLA DIGITAL ARTS will collaborate once again following ULTRAMAN (streaming 1 April on Netflix). This is the first Ghost In the Shell series to be brought to fans with a double director.

In 2045, the world has been thrown into a state of systematic "sustainable war," but the threat of human extinction at the hands of AI hasn't yet pervaded the public consciousness. Former members of Public Security Section 9, including full-body cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi, are working as hired mercenaries when mysterious beings known as "post humans" begin to emerge. The world’s superpowers are trying to come to grips with the threat, and so Section 9 is reorganized.

Japan Sinks: 2020 – 2020

Masaaki Yuasa is directing an upcoming anime series adaptation of famous science-fiction novel, “Japan Sinks” written by Sakyo Komatsu.

The story of “Japan Sinks 2020” develops in the current time of Japan in 2020 -- the days right after the finale of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In such a setting, “Japan Sinks 2020” uniquely presents stories about current ordinary people in Japan -- those who are struggling to survive their lives in such catastrophical world, and stand up for their hopes.
