Netflix Renews SWEET TOOTH For Third and Final Season

Netflix has renewed its fantasy adventure series Sweet Tooth for a third season, and that season will close out the series and bring the story to an end. According to the report, the third season has already been filmed in New Zealand.

I’ve enjoyed watching this show, which followed a half-human and half-deer boy on a perilous adventure in a post-apocalyptic world, as he searches for a new beginning with a gruff protector. I’m looking forward to seeing how this story will end.

Jim Mickle, creator, showrunner, director, and executive producer, said in a statement: “In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life. At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be. The crew and cast bring so much depth and point of view to who the characters are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going,”

Mickle went on to tease the final season, saying: “Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in Season 1 or 2.”

The series is based on the comic by Jeff Lemire, and this is the description of the story: "Ten years ago 'The Great Crumble' wreaked havoc on the world and led to the mysterious emergence of hybrids — babies born part human, part animal. Unsure if hybrids are the cause or result of the virus, many humans fear and hunt them. After a decade of living safely in his secluded forest home, a sheltered hybrid deer-boy named Gus unexpectedly befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd. Together they set out on an extraordinary adventure across what’s left of America in search of answers— about Gus' origins, Jepperd's past, and the true meaning of home. But their story is full of unexpected allies and enemies, and Gus quickly learns the lush, dangerous world outside the forest is more complex than he ever could have imagined."

In Season 2: A deadly new wave of the Sick bears down, Gus and a band of fellow hybrids are held prisoner by General Abbot and the Last Men. Looking to consolidate power by finding a cure, Abbot uses the children as fodder for the experiments of captive Dr. Aditya Singh, who’s racing to save his infected wife Rani. To protect his friends, Gus agrees to help Dr. Singh, beginning a dark journey into his origins and his mother Birdie’s role in the events leading up to The Great Crumble. Outside the Preserve, Tommy Jepperd and Aimee Eden team up to break the hybrids free, a partnership that will be tested as Jepperd’s secrets come to light. As the revelations of the past threaten the possibility of redemption in the present, Gus and his found family find themselves on a collision course with Abbot and the evil forces that look to wipe them out once and for all.

Some new cast members were also revealed for Season 3 with the addition of Rosalind Chao (Better Things, Mulan), who plays Zhao, has been upped to a series regular alongside Amy Seimetz (No Sudden Move, Pet Sematary), who plays Birdie. Cara Gee (The Expanse, Call Of The Wild) is cast as a series regular with Ayazhan Dalabayeva. Gee will star as Siana and Dalabayeva as Nuka.

The series stars Christian Convery as Gus, Nonso Anozie as Jepperd, Adeel Akhtar as Dr. Singh, Stefania LaVie Owen as Bear, Dania Ramirez as Aimee Eden, Aliza Vellani as Rani Singh, Naledi Murray as Wendy, Neil Sandilands as General Abbot, Marlon Williams as Johnny Abbot, Christopher Sean Cooper Jr. as Teddy Turtle and Yonas Kibreab as Finn Fox; with James Brolin as the voice of the narrator.

The series is also executive produced by Beth Schwartz, Susan Downey, and Robert Downey Jr. through their Team Downey banner alongside Evan Moore, Amanda Burrell, and Linda Moran.
