Netflix Unleashes First Trailer for DEVIL MAY CRY Season 2 and It’s Gloriously Chaotic

Netflix just released the first trailer for Devil May Cry Season 2 during Anime NYC, and it looks like the demonic action is about to crank up to a whole new level.

The streaming platform, which has been leaning hard into anime and video game adaptations, gave fans an exciting tease of what’s to come in the next chapter of the hit animated series based on Capcom’s beloved franchise.

For those late to the demon-slaying party, Devil May Cry centers on Dante, the stylish, white-haired mercenary who runs a demon-hunting business while grappling with his own supernatural heritage.

Born of the legendary demon Sparda, Dante wields incredible power, but Season 1 left him in a tight spot. After defeating the mysterious White Rabbit, Dante was quickly captured by DarkCom, a secretive government group hellbent on wiping out demons at any cost.

Now imprisoned in the demon world, he’s powerless to stop the U.S. military from storming in and crushing innocent demonic citizens who just want to be left alone.

Meanwhile, Season 1’s final moments introduced fans to Dante’s complicated and powerful brother, Vergil. Vergil is stepping into a much bigger role in Season 2. The trailer doesn’t reveal too much about the plot, but I dig the energy, and the sibling rivalry between Dante and Vergil is set to explode.

As for where the story is headed, Adi Shankar, the show’s creator, shared some ambitious insights earlier this year. He teased major changes ahead, saying:

“My plan was always to build and expand Devil May Cry. Season 1 had to be the gateway drug, but season 2, the storytelling is going to pivot. Season 2 is going to be different, stylistically and tonally, from season 1. Vergil is a big, very important character. It’s essentially a new show.

“I have goals. I want to body Arcane, surpass it in viewership… Arcane is the Joker lighting cash on fire, and it’s great. With season 2 of Devil May Cry, I want to beat that. Show up to a tank fight with a water balloon and destroy the tank. Because that’s cool.”

Shankar is aiming for Devil May Cry to be more than just a hit, he wants it to be a cultural phenomenon on the same level as Arcane.

Whether you're a long-time fan of the games or just discovered Dante through the anime, Season 2 of Devil May Cry looks like it's about to deliver a chaotic, stylish, and emotionally charged ride.
