Netflix's Live-Action ONE PIECE Gets a Fun New Trailer With Original Japanese Voice Cast
Netflix Japan has released a new trailer for its live-action adaptation of One Piece, and one of the things that makes this one so much fun is that it brings back the original Japanese voice cast from the animated series!
That voice cast includes Mayumi Tanaka as Luffy, Kazuya Nakai as Roronoa Zoro, Akemi Okamura as Nami, Kappei Yamaguchi as Usop, and Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji.
When it was first announced that the original anime cast would be back to provide the Japanese dub for the new series, Tanaka said: "I've been voicing Luffy for more than 23 years now, and I think everyone has a little bit of Luffy in their heart. Iñaki, who performs Luffy in this live-action series, is so fun and joyful that he really makes a perfect Luffy. I’m very happy to be able to voice Luffy in this adaptation as well"
I’m actually pretty excited for this show! I know some fans don’t seem to be on board, but I think it looks like it captures the spirit of the anime and I think I’m gonna have a good time watching it!
One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his pirate crew as they explore a fantastical world of endless oceans and exotic islands in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King.
Steven Maeda is a co-writer, showrunner, and executive producer on the series along with Matt Owens, who is also co-writing and executive producing. The live-action cast stars Inaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Emily Rudd as Nami.
The 10-episode series comes from Tomorrow Studios and One Piece publisher Shueisha. Open Piece will be released on August 31st! Check out the Japanese dubbed trailer below! I also included a few new photos that were released.
