New Details on Who Might Play Brainiac in James Gunn’s MAN OF TOMMOROW

Man of Tomorrow is officially bringing Brainiac to the big screen, after months of speculation, the villain has been confirmed as the main antagonist in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel, and now, it looks like we’re getting an idea of who might play him.

When Gunn first shared the script’s cover online, fans immediately picked up on the tease. The filmmaker later acknowledged the speculation, saying, "Listen, of course I wasn't unaware that when I posted the cover of the script that there was going to be discussion around that particular topic. But I think we'll hold off from what exactly is happening."

Now, according to new reports, Gunn has started meeting with actors for the role. Insider Grace Randolph first shared that David Hyde Pierce (Frasier), Wallace Shawn (Young Sheldon), and Claes Bang (Dracula) are all being eyed for the part.

Not long after, @ApocHorseman from Nexus Point News added, "I can confirm I heard Claes Bang too. But there’s a handful of others who are going to be tested, so it’s undecided."

Bang is known for his chilling and commanding performances, especially in Bad Sisters, and could easily bring a cold, intellectual menace to Brainiac.

What’s interesting, though, is Gunn’s continued approach to casting actors who aren’t necessarily A-list household names. Whether this is about keeping budgets tight or simply finding the right talent to fit the role, it’s working. If things are moving this quickly, we could be getting official casting news before the end of the year.

Gunn has been vocal about how interconnected his DC Universe will be, even hinting at how Peacemaker leads into Man of Tomorrow:

"Everything's connected, so there is a story here that we're telling throughout the DCU, and this is connected very much to Man of Tomorrow. But there are other elements, and part of that is the relationship between Rick Flag and Lex Luthor, and that's an important thing going forward in the DCU and Man of Tomorrow and so on."

He went on to add, "It's more complicated than that, but that's a big part of it. It's as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much."

Fans seem pretty hyped for Man of Tomorrow and it’s set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
