New Featurette For NIGHT SWIM Highlights How Sinister Swimming Pools Can Be

Universal Pictures has released a new featurette for the upcoming swimming pool horror film Night Swim. The film comes from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster and the new video features producers Jason Blum and James Wan, along with writer/director Bryce McGuire, explaining the inspiration behind the upcoming horror movie. It also includes some new footage.

The video came with the following note: "No running. No diving. No lifeguard on duty. No swimming after dark. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, the producers of M3GAN, high dive into the deep end of horror with the new supernatural thriller, Night Swim."

Blum says in the promo: “Even though, in your mind, you understand that the pool is only a few feet deep, when the lights go out, anything could be beneath you.” The director goes on to say that he wants people to be holding their breath in the theater.

You know, I’ve never been afraid of swimming pools. Hell, I’m the guy who has spent time surfing in the ocean at night. I don’t imagine this movie will instill any kind of fear in me, but it looks like it will be an entertaining movie, the goal of which is apparently to give people a fear of swimming pools.

Night Swim centers on a family who finds themselves dealing with a nightmarish supernatural presence that resides in the backyard swimming pool of their new home.

In the story, “Secretly hoping, against the odds, to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new home’s shimmering backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him. But a dark secret in the home’s past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under, into the depths of inescapable terror.”

The film is based on the 2014 short film by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, and it stars Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Ray Waller, “a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, who moves into a new home with his concerned wife Eve (Kerry CondonThe Banshees of Inisherin), teenage daughter Izzy (Amélie Hoeferle - The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and young son Elliot (Gavin WarrenFear the Walking Dead).”

Night Swim is produced by James Wan (SawInsidious, and The Conjuring franchises) and Jason Blum (Halloween films, The Black Phone and The Invisible Man).

Night Swim will hit theaters on January 5th, 2024.
