New Marvel Book Seems to Confirm Scarlet Witch's Demise in DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

It was pretty clear to viewers at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that the version of Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) that we came to know in the MCU had been killed off at Mount Wundagore. But, some fans have questioned if she was really actually dead.

Well, a new Marvel book titled Marvel Studios' The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline has confirmed that she is indeed dead. The book says: "[Wanda] destroys Wundagore – and collapses it upon herself – ending two great threats to all of the Multiverse.”

I figured that was the case, but it doesn’t mean that we won’t see Olsen again in the role as there are several variants of Scarlet Witch in the multiverse. But, the version of the character that was killed is the one that had been built up in the MCU since her full introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Wanda Maximoff has experienced a complex and emotional story arc in the MCU. Introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron as a Sokovian orphan with her twin brother Pietro, Wanda initially opposes the Avengers due to resentment stemming from a Stark Industries missile. However, after realizing the true threat posed by Ultron, she and Pietro ally with the Avengers. Pietro tragically dies during the conflict.

By the events of Captain America: Civil War, Wanda's powers cause an accident resulting in civilian casualties, leading to the Sokovia Accords and further fracturing the Avengers. Wanda builds a relationship with Vision, but that is cut short in Avengers: Infinity War when she is forced to destroy the Mind Stone (and, in turn, Vision) to stop Thanos. Thanos reverses time and takes the stone, killing Vision again.

In Avengers: Endgame, Wanda helps battle a past version of Thanos. Following this, the WandaVision series delves into Wanda's grief and trauma, manifesting a surreal sitcom world in Westview where Vision is seemingly alive. As the series unfolds, it becomes clear that Wanda's magic, combined with her pain, has inadvertently trapped the town's citizens. By the end, she fully assumes the mantle of the Scarlet Witch and begins to understand her vast potential, setting the stage for what happens in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
