New MIAMI VICE Movie in Development With TOP GUN: MAVERICK Director Joseph Kosinski

It looks like we’re getting a new Miami Vice movie from Universal Pictures, and this time around it’s being directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski.

Michael Mann directed the Miami Vice movie that came out in 2006, and it starred Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. While that movie got trashed by critics at the time of its release, it has since found a passionate fan base.

Mann is set to produce the new film, and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrwaler, Andor) is writing the script. The film is said to be currently in development and is being produced by Forward Pass, Inc.

The listing for the film also adds: “Based on the 1980s TV action/drama, this update focuses on vice detectives James "Sonny" Crockett and detective Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, of the Miami-Dade police department's organized crime bureau vice unit, who work deep undercover as seedy criminals to infiltrate and bring down the various criminal enterprises of southern Florida.

While I can’t say I’m really excited for another Miami Vice movie, this actually could end up being a great film with a creative team like Kosinski and Gilroy. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Kosinski’s next film is F1, starring Brad Pitt, coming out in the summer. He also is developing a UFO disclosure-themed take on All the President’s Men, the classic 1976 political thriller.

What do you think about Miami Vice getting another movie?
