New Photo From GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE and Producer Ivan Reitman Cried After Watching It

One film that I’m insanely excited about finally seeing later this year is director Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The first trailer that was released for the film got me so freakin’ excited for what this new Ghostbusters story has to offer, especially because it set in the same universe as the original two movies.

Well, today we have a new photo to share with you featuring the young cast members of the film driving around in the Ecto-1.

This next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe centers on “a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.”

The story will have something to do with Ivo Shandor and the Cult of Gozer, who were discussed in the original film. You can read more about that here.

Producer Ivan Reitman had a chance to see the film during the pandemic and he loved it so much that it made him cry. His son, Jason Reitman, told Empire:

“My father hasn’t been leaving the house much because of Covid. But he took a test, put on a mask and drove down to the Sony lot to watch the movie with the studio. And after, he cried, and he said, ‘I’m so proud to be your father.’ And it was one of the great moments of my life.”

Jason Reitman went on to talk about the tone of the film and what he was going for in terms of comedy and horror:

“The feeling that I’ve kind of held onto is that while it is very funny, it really scared me. It was really my first experience with a horror film. I was at a Directors Guild meeting and I happened to be sitting next to Steven Spielberg – when I told him I was working on Ghostbusters, he out of nowhere said, ‘Library Ghost – top ten scares of all time.’ And it’s true.”

The script for the film comes from Gil Kenan and the movie stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver are also said to be returning.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set to be released on June 11, 2021.
