New Poster For 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE - "Fear in the New Faith"
Sony Pictures has released a new international poster for Nia DaCosta’s upcoming horror sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and with it comes confirmation that a second trailer is arriving next week.
The poster pulls together several key figures who will define the direction of The Bone Temple. Front and center is Jack O’Connell as Sir Jimmy Crystal, the oddball leader introduced in the final minutes of Danny Boyle’s previous film when he and his troupe of Jimmy Saville imitators swooped in to save Spike, played by Alfie Williams, from a mob of Infected.
Now it looks like Jimmy and his followers are heading straight for the mysterious temple, putting them on a collision course with one of the story’s most compelling characters.
Also featured is Ralph Fiennes as Doctor Kelson, whose story arc is sure to get very interesting. Sharing the spotlight is Sampson, the Alpha Infected portrayed by Chi Lewis-Parry, who has a strange connection with Kelson. Fans will notice that Sampson ‘s Johnson is thankfully covered up.
Based on the first trailer, Jimmy and his crew may end up targeting Kelson, and the movie appears to push into some intense personal dynamics within the chaos.
Cillian Murphy is also officially coming back as Jim from 28 Days Later. His return is expected to be brief in this chapter, but it reportedly sets the stage for a much larger role in the trilogy’s final installment.
In a recent interview, DaCosta talked about embracing her own creative style rather than trying to mimic Boyle’s approach. Her perspective gives a fascinating peek into the tone and energy she’s aiming for.
“The thing that connects the two [movies] is that they’re both bonkers, idiosyncratic, and very artistically personal works,” DaCosta said. “My big pitch when I was talking to the producers, including Danny and Alex, before I came on was, ‘I’m going to make this my own.
“I’m not going to try to make a Danny Boyle movie.’ Because that’s impossible to make. He’s so special. And it didn’t really interest me. It’s so hard to describe the tone of the movie that I actually won’t even attempt to. But it keeps the same unique, off-the-wall, surprising energy.”
The synopsis reads: "Expanding upon the world created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in 28 Years Later but turning that world on its head – Nia DaCosta directs 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
“In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship – with consequences that could change the world as they know it – and Spike’s (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) becomes a nightmare he can’t escape.
“In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival – the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying."
The poster’s tagline, “Fear Is The New Faith,” hints at a thematic shift as humanity itself is spiraling into something far stranger and even more menacing.
With 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will be released on January 14th.
