New Report Claims That Netflix's DAREDEVIL and JESSICA JONES Could Be in Trouble
With the recent cancellations of the Netflix Marvel shows Iron Fist and Luke Cage, some fans have been worried that Daredevil or Jessica Jones could be next. Well, according to a report from Business Insider, there are signs that these shows could be in trouble.
I mean, it’s really only a matter of time before Daredevil and Jessica Jones come to an end, but this report makes it seem like it could happen sooner rather than later.
The news outlet was provided data from the consumer-insights company Crimson Hexagon and that data shows that social-media buzz for all four shows has dropped dramatically over time. It’s explained that since Netflix doesn't release viewership numbers, “social-media data is one of the best alternatives to finding out whether these shows have legs to stand on.”
The data points out that when Luke Cage first premiered in 2016, there were over 300,000 Twitter and Instagram posts regarding it. That number took a huge dive when Season 2 premiered, with less than 50,000 posts.
Iron Fist from 120,000 posts on Twitter and Instagram with its first season to less than 20,000 with its second. These are pretty big drops, but Daredevil and Jessica Jones weren’t as dramatic.
Jessica Jones launched with 300,000 posts on Twitter and Instagram, but those numbers were cut in half when the second season was released this year.
As for Daredevil. Season 1 blew up with 275,000 posts on social media. The numbers of Season 2 dropped to a little over 200,000, which isn’t really that bad. But then Season 3 dropped to around 75,000.
Using social media as a way to read the ratings of these shows is interesting. You can definitely see the interest in these shows dropping. But the rating may not be the only reason why Luke Cage and Iron Fist were cancelled. There were reports that creative differences may have played a part in the cancellation of Luke Cage.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Daredevil and Jessica Jones. I think we’ll get at least one more season of each and then we’ll see what happens. As for The Punisher, we’ll see how the series does when it gets its second season.
What do you think about this information regarding Netflix’s Marvel shows? How long do you think the surviving series will last?
