New Report Reveals Where Deadpool Fits Into AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY
Deadpool’s long road into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been anything but subtle, and now it looks like his next stop is going to be one of the biggest crossover events Marvel Studios has ever attempted. A new report claims Wade Wilson will play a very specific role in Avengers: Doomsday.
Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were big wins for 20th Century Fox, landing with both critics and audiences while proving that an R-rated superhero could still crush it at the box office. Once Marvel Studios reclaimed the X-Men rights, it was only a matter of time before Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth crashed the MCU party.
That moment arrived with Deadpool & Wolverine, which exploded into a $1.4 billion hit and officially cracked the door open for R-rated storytelling under the Marvel Studios banner. Since then, speculation hasn’t slowed down about when Wade Wilson and Logan would show up again, and in what capacity.
After their encounter with the TVA, both characters settled permanently on Earth-10005, a reality that’s widely expected to factor into Avengers: Doomsday when Earth-616’s heroes collide with the X-Men. Reynolds is also still developing an X-Force-inspired project aimed at the post–Avengers: Secret Wars era.
The Hollywood trades have already confirmed that Reynolds is set to return for Avengers: Doomsday, with Hugh Jackman sure to be a part of the film as well. Now a new detail sheds some light on what Deadpool will actually be doing when the multiverse starts throwing punches.
According to @MyTimeToShineH, “Deadpool is in Doomsday and [helps] the X-Men fight the Avengers and Fantastic Four.”
Reynolds has already made it clear where he thinks Deadpool belongs, and where he doesn’t: “I don’t think he should ever be an Avenger or an X-Man. If he becomes either, we’re at the end.”
When asked whether that meant he’d pass on Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, or even a future X-Men reboot, Reynolds pushed back hard.
“Just the opposite! I think Deadpool works so well appearing with the X-Men and Avengers, but he always needs to stay an outsider. His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted.”
He went on to explain why that tension is essential to the character: “His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey,” Reynolds noted.
Avengers: Doomsday already boasts a massive ensemble, including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. New additions to the Avengers roster include Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman.
They’ll be joined by the cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, led by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, along with returning X-Men favorites Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Deadpool & Wolverine standout Channing Tatum.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently set for release on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
