New SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE Footage Swings in Big at CinemaCon; New Images Released
Sony just gave CinemaCon attendees a fresh look at Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and even though the movie is still a long way off, what they showed is massive in scope and packed with some great character moments that fans are going to love.
This sneak peek picks up right where the story last film, Accross The Spider-Verse, left off and teases a finale that’s aiming to go all out.
After a long stretch of delays, the third chapter in the Spider-Verse trilogy is finally moving forward with a release set for June 18, 2027. Producers and writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller brought new footage to CinemaCon, giving a much better idea of how this story picks up and where it’s headed next.
The footage drops us straight back into the chaos with Miles Morales trapped in another dimension, face-to-face with the Miles version of Prowler and Uncle Aaron.
The scene echoes what we’ve seen before, but it expands beyond what we’ saw in the last film and into the start of the new one. There’s a weird and funny moment where both versions of Miles realize they say “Morales” differently, which kicks off a back-and-forth comparison of their differences. Prowler even throws out a quick jab asking, “Are you bleeding from the armpits?”
Miles tries to explain what’s going on. “My dad is going to die,” he says, which only earns skepticism. Prowler pushes back, and Miles attempts to break down the idea of canon events. It doesn’t land. “Okay, you tried,” Prowler responds, clearly not buying it. When Miles casually reveals he’s Spider-Man, the reaction is laughter. In this world, that name means nothing.
Things escalate when Miles starts glitching again, his body reacting badly to the dimension. Prowler isn’t exactly sympathetic.
As the situation turns threatening, Miles stays calm and warns, “I don’t want to hurt you.” He’s restrained, but he makes his move anyway, dropping the line, “Don’t watch the mouth, watch the hands,” before unleashing his electric powers and breaking free.
From there, the footage shifts gears into a rapid-fire montage. There’s a line, “Let’s do this one last time,” delivered over what appears to be flashbacks involving a younger Aaron and Jeff, hinting at deeper emotional threads tied to Miles’ past.
The montage ramps up with glimpses of Miles battling Prowler, cars flying over a drawbridge, and moments with Gwen, who’s rocking a patched-up jacket. Familiar faces pop in too. Peter gets a quick comedic beat with Spider-Ham, saying, “Ham, hold my baby.” “Gladly,” Spider-Ham replies. “But I’m all out of milk.”
Then it gets even bigger. Spider-Punk lays out the stakes: “So you’re going to save your dad, beat Spot, and shake Miguel’s whole game by yourself?”
The visuals are intense, with portals opening across the skyline like something out of Avengers: Endgame, multiple versions of Times Square, and what might even be characters flying through space. The Spot appears more chaotic than ever, as a walking mess of black lines.
It all builds toward a quieter but powerful moment from Miles’ mom: “You’re not tough,” she says. “You’re strong.”
That line hits at the emotional core this story is aiming for, even with all the multiverse chaos happening around it.
The film is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, and features a stacked voice cast including Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Nicolas Cage, and Jake Johnson.
Here's the official synopsis for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse: “Miles Morales returns for the final chapter of Sony Pictures Animation's Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
“Hunted by Miguel O’Hara’s Spider Society and betrayed by his friends, Miles finds himself in the darkest corners of the Spider-Verse in search of a way home. Knowing that his family has been not only fractured but endangered by his calling, it’s a race against the clock for Miles to travel across the wildest reaches of time and space to fight for and reunite everything he holds most dear.”
From everything we saw, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse isn’t just going bigger for the finale, it’s going deeper too. If this footage is any indication, Miles’ final chapter is shaping up to be something pretty special and insanely awesome!
