New STAR WARS Book Teases Time Jump Before THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU Hits Theaters
Something interesting is happening in the galaxy far, far away, and it looks like we may not be picking up exactly where we left off. A newly released Star Wars companion book is hinting that The Mandalorian timeline is moving forward before The Mandalorian and Grogu lands, and that could have some pretty fun implications for the story.
At the end of The Mandalorian Season 3, Din Djarin and Grogu finally carved out a peaceful corner of the galaxy on Nevarro. It felt like a rare moment of calm for the duo.
Now, thanks to The Mandalorian: The Visual Guide via The HoloFiles, we’re getting a better picture of what’s been happening since then. According to the book, Mando and Grogu have "grown quite comfortable on Nevarro between assignments" and have "made a life for themselves."
That wording suggests time has passed, and not just a few days or weeks. We’re likely jumping ahead to a version of these characters who’ve settled into a routine, which opens the door for a different kind of story dynamic when the film kicks off.
Even more interesting is how this lines up with the bigger Star Wars narrative. With Ahsoka bringing Grand Admiral Thrawn back into the main galaxy alongside Ezra Bridger, there’s clearly something larger brewing in the background.
Whether or not that spills directly into The Mandalorian and Grogu is still up in the air, but it’s hard to ignore the potential crossover energy building across these projects.
On the character side, one detail fans have been curious about is Din Djarin’s helmet rule. That’s been a defining part of his identity since day one.
According to Pedro Pascal, the upcoming film will finally give us a moment where that helmet comes off again, and it sounds like it’s handled in a way that actually clicks with the character.
"When we got to that part, all I can say is that it made perfect sense, and it was what I was hoping would be the reason," Pascal explained.
"If I were to pitch something, I would say, 'The only thing that makes sense is...' And that's exactly it. He filled that blank. I said immediately, 'Jon [Favreau, director], that's exactly what I was hoping to hear!'"
The suggests the moment isn’t just there for shock value, but tied into Din’s ongoing evolution. Right now, The Mandalorian and Grogu is shaping up to be something that both continues the story and stands on its own. If this time jump is real, it could give the film a fresh starting point while still rewarding longtime fans.
The movie hits theaters on May 22, and until then, there’s still more Star Wars to dig into. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is currently rolling out on Disney+, dropping two episodes a week for anyone looking to stay locked into the galaxy’s darker corners.
