New Story Details Revealed For The Upcoming HELLBOY Reboot
We recently learned that Millennium Media was developing another fresh new feature film reboot of Hellboy. The movie will be directed by Brian Taylor (Crank, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Gamer), and it’s confirmed that the title of the film is Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
Deadline confirmed that the film is based on the comic of the same name, and in that story, written by creator Mike Mignola with art by the late Richard Corben, Hellboy goes to Virginia in the 1950s to face off with some witches, and while he’s on his journey, over the course of the story, he stumbles upon The Crooked Man. Mignola and horror/fantasy author Christopher Golden will be receiving story credits on this new film.
We’ve also learned that Hellboy will be teamed up with a rookie BPRD agent and they find themselves stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. “There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.” The story will “expand Hellboy’s world through one of the most beloved issues of the comic series.”
Millennium Media’s President Jeffrey Greenstein said in a statement: “The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form. This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways. Brian Taylor is an expert across the board, and I couldn’t think of a better person to bring this story to life to show our audience this different and original Hellboy slate of films.”
So, they are really hoping that this movie works, so that they can make more of them. I wish them the best of luck because that last Hellboy movie was not good at all. They can really only go up from there.
Production of the film is going to start next month in Bulgaria and they are in the process of locking down the cast. Are you excited about this latest attempt to reboot the Hellboy franchise?
