New Story Details on THE LOST BOYS Series Coming to The CW

A few weeks ago it was announced that The CW was producing a pilot for a series adaptation of the classic ‘80s vampire movie The Lost Boys.

Veronica Mars’s Rob Thomas is an executive producer on the show, and Heather Mitchell (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy) is developing it. I’m actually kinda looking forward to seeing how this show turns out because I’m such a big fan of the original film.

We’ve got some new story details to share with you today regarding the pilot episode, but before I share that, this was the information that was previously released:

Welcome to sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

As for the plot of the pilot episode, this is what was revealed thanks to Production Weekly:

"After 25 years away from home, Lucy Emerson (who is at the end of her financial rope) returns home to the small California beach town of Santa Carla, to live with her father Frank and teach at the local high school. But Lucy either doesn't know or doesn't share the town's big secret with her two sons, Michael and Sam: Santa Carla has a nest of vampires secreted inside the city limits, and they are getting hungrier by the day."

As you can see, there’s a bit of a departure from the film’s story, but it’s nothing big. In the film the mom ends up working at a video store, but given that video stores don’t really exist anymore, teaching at a high school will work. Plus, high school will make for a good setting. The film was set during summer.

When Thomas was originally developing this series a few years ago, the plan was to tell the stories of the immortal vampires over the course of different time periods starting with the ‘60s. There were also plans for seven seasons. I liked that concept, but it doesn’t look like that is how this series is going to play out. We’ll just have to wait and see.
