New TOY STORY Plot Details Tease Buzz and Jessie’s Roles
Pixar Studios is bringing the beloved Toy Story franchise back to the big screen next summer with its fifth installment, and new details from franchise star Tim Allen are giving fans a little glimpse into what’s in store.
The film, directed by Andrew Stanton, will reportedly center on the toys grappling with their relevance in an era of advancing technology. But now, thanks to Allen, we know a bit more about the character dynamics driving the story.
Speaking on Good Morning America, Allen revealed that Buzz Lightyear will play a big role in the film and that Jessie faces a major challenge at the heart of the plot.
He said: “I’ve already begun, I’m in the third act now. It’s remarkable what they’ve done. There’s a lot of real intrigue with Buzz. Jessie’s got a big trouble, she needs help, so it’s a really cool thing.”
While the exact details remain under wraps, it’s interesting to hear that Buzz will have a more prominent role in the movie. Jessie’s troubles will most likely be the catalyst for bringing the toys together, but how it all ties into the theme of technology remains to be seen.
One question for fans is how Woody, who parted ways with Buzz, Jessie, and Bonnie’s toys at the end of Toy Story 4, might be reintegrated into the story.
Woody’s emotional farewell to join Bo Peep at the carnival felt like a definitive conclusion, so I’m curious to see how Pixar handles his potential return.
Allen has expressed confidence in the film’s story, previously saying: “It’s a very, very clever story … I don’t really believe it’s about the money. I’m sure they want it to be a success, but that’s not why they did it.
“Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks].”
It would be great if Toy Story 5 actually could deliver the emotional depth and clever storytelling fans have come to expect from the franchise, but I personally think it should’ve ended with Toy Story 3.
