New Trailer For THE SUPER MARIO BROS. Brings Yoshi Into The Spotlight

Nintendo and Illumination just released a brand-new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and footage confirms Yoshi’s arrival and also reveals that the sequel is hitting theaters a little sooner than expected. The release date has officially moved up by two days, which is always a welcome surprise.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continues the animated universe that exploded onto the big screen in 2023. The sequel is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and it pulls heavy inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy, the beloved Nintendo title released back in 2007.

The new trailer shows Mario, once again voiced by Chris Pratt, bouncing across wildly different galaxies and environments, each one packed with colorful chaos and familiar enemies.

Most exciting is the first real look at Yoshi, who was previously teased in the post-credit scene of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Fans finally get to see the green dinosaur in action, and his debut is sure to make fans happy.

As for the rest of the voice cast, Charlie Day returns as Luigi, Jack Black is back as Bowser, and Anya Taylor-Joy reprises her role as Princess Peach. The sequel also introduces Brie Larson as Rosalina, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

The screenplay comes from Matthew Fogel, with Chris Meledandri producing for Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto producing on behalf of Nintendo. Composer Brian Tyler returns to handle the score.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie pulled in approximately $1.36 billion worldwide, becoming the first film adaptation of a video game to cross the billion-dollar mark. It also claimed the title of highest-grossing video game movie ever.

At one point, it ranked as the third-highest-grossing animated film of all time and currently sits in sixth place, behind 2025’s Ne Zha 2, 2025’s Zootopia 2, 2024’s Inside Out 2, 2019’s The Lion King, and 2019’s Frozen II. The film is also the 19th highest-grossing movie ever when not adjusted for inflation.

With Yoshi officially joining the adventure and the Galaxy setting fully unleashed, this sequel is shaping up to go bigger in every direction. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie arrives in theaters on April 1, 2026, from Universal Pictures. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to blast off!
