New Trailer Released for Jim Henson’s LABYRINTH 40th Anniversary Re-Release

A brand new trailer has dropped for the upcoming 40th Anniversary theatrical re-release of Labyrinth, and it’s a pretty great reminder of why this fantasy classic has stayed lodged in the hearts of so many fans for decades.

Fathom Entertainment has officially unveiled the trailer as part of the celebration leading up to the film’s return to theaters in early 2026, newly remastered in 4K and ready for the big screen once again.

The Jim Henson Company is bringing the 1986 fantasy adventure created by Jim Henson and George Lucas, back to theaters in partnership with Sony Pictures. The anniversary event runs from January 8th through January 11th, 2026, giving fans four nights to experience the film as it was meant to be seen.

The re-release also includes a special fan focused featurette filmed at the UK’s recent Labyrinth Experience and Masked Ball, along with a special introduction from Brian Henson, Chairman of The Jim Henson Company, son of Jim Henson, and the voice of Hoggle in the film.

The movie stars Jennifer Connelly in her original breakout role as Sarah, a 14 year old girl who gets pulled into a strange and dangerous fantasy world after wishing her baby stepbrother away.

Presiding over that world is the Goblin King, played by David Bowie, in one of the most iconic performances of his career. For anyone who grew up in the 80s, Labyrinth wasn’t just a movie, it was a full on childhood experience. Seeing it return to theaters feels like the perfect excuse to revisit it the right way.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Frustrated with babysitting on yet another weekend night, Sarah (Jennifer Connelly), a teenager with an active imagination, summons the Goblins to take her baby stepbrother away. When little Toby actually disappears, Sarah must follow him into a fantastical world to rescue him from the Goblin King (David Bowie).

“Guarding his castle is the labyrinth itself, a twisted maze of deception, populated with outrageous characters and unknown dangers. To get through it in time to save Toby, Sarah befriends the Goblins, in hopes that their loyalty isn’t just another illusion in a place where nothing is as it seems.”

Labyrinth was directed by Jim Henson, marking his third feature film following The Great Muppet Caper and The Dark Crystal, before later working on Muppet Vision 3D. The screenplay was written by Terry Jones, with the story credited to Dennis Lee and Henson.

The film was produced by Eric Rattray and made by Henson Associates and Lucasfilm. When it first opened in theaters in June of 1986, Labyrinth earned around $34 million at the box office, but its legacy has only grown stronger over time.

With a fresh 4K remaster, special anniversary features, and a limited theatrical run right after New Year’s, this re-release feels like a love letter to the fans like myself who’ve kept the film alive for four decades.
