Nicole Kidman Explains Why She Took Roles in BATMAN FOREVER and AQUAMAN
When Nicole Kidman took on the role of Dr. Chase Meridian in director Joel Schumacher’s 1995 DC movie Batman Forever, people in the industry were wondering why in the hell she would do that. Years later, the actress starred in another DC movie, James Wan’s Aquaman.
During an interview with L’Officiel, Kidman explains why she took these roles and she makes it clear that it wasn’t for the money. It was for the fun of it!
Kidman recalled: “Everyone’s like, ’Why are you doing that?’ I’m like, ‘Because I get to kiss Batman!’…The thing people don’t understand is, it’s not about the check. A lot of the mainstream big blockbusters that I do are hopefully different.”
As for why she agreed to play Queen Atlanna in the Aquaman franchise, it wasn’t because she had a passion for the Aquaman comics, it was because she was a fan of director James Wan and his horror movies.
Kidman says she was elated when he called her for the role because at first she thought it was going to be for a horror film, she said: “I’d really wanted to work with him in horror.”
Taking the Aquaman role, though, could eventually lead to her eventually starring in a James Wan horror movie, which would be awesome! I’d love to see Kidman star in another horror movie.
