Nintendo Is Reportedly Developing Movies Based on THE LEGEND OF ZELDA, LUIGI, and DONKEY KONG
Nintendo saw big success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, so it would make sense that they would want to start developing other films based on their original properties. Illumination and Nintendo are reportedly working on four more animated films which include The Legend of Zelda, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
A lot of fans seem excited about a Zelda film as it’s been something we’ve wanted to see made for years. In regards to that film, it’s explained it will “be an amalgamation of very different Zelda games, rather than a straight adaption of like, say... Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, etc.” They also say that Link will speak in the film. I should point out that Illumination has shot down these rumors tied to a Zelda movie in the past, but a Zelda movie is inevitable. They aren’t going to confirm it right now if it is true.
When it comes to the Luigi-centered movie, there aren’t really any details to share, but Luigi's most famous standalone video game title is Luigi's Mansion, which plays with some fun horror elements. This was touched on a bit in the Super Mario Bros. movie.
Charlie Day voiced the character in the movie, and he previously expressed interest in developing an animated movie tied to Luigi's Mansion. He previously said: "It’s so fun to be part of this world and just people love these characters so much. I mean, I would love to keep doing it and Luigi has got a whole mansion he can wander around and be scared in. But I don’t know, I think I’d do as many as they wanted me to do."
As of right now if there has been any movement on these projects, that has been stalled at the moment with the writers and actors strikes currently pressing forward.
