Noah Hawley Teases a Long Future for ALIEN: EARTH as Season 2 Gears Up
Fans had to sit tight longer than expected for word on the future of Alien: Earth, and that silence started to make people uneasy. Now that the dust has settled, things are looking pretty great.
The series is officially coming back for a second season, and the addition of Peter Dinklage to the cast has only cranked up the excitement. For a show that already pushed the Alien universe into some seriously strange and creative territory, the future is starting to look even bigger.
Of course, once that renewal news hit, the next question was obvious. Where does it go from here?
Noah Hawley, the creative force behind the series, isn’t sharing all the secrets just yet, but he did offer a few updates in a recent interview. Production on season two is right around the corner, and things are already in motion.
“We start [shooting season two] this summer,” he told the trade. “I did a stage walk today past the props and costumes. Things are being built. It’s always exciting to see it.”
There’s also been a notable shift behind the scenes, with production moving from Thailand to Pinewood Studios in the UK. Hawley sees it as a smart move for the show’s future, calling it “a better home for us long-term.”
That word, long-term, is where things get really interesting. Hawley clearly has bigger ambitions for Alien: Earth than just a couple of seasons. He’s thinking in terms of longevity, but he’s also keeping expectations grounded in reality.
“It’s my hope—I have a place that I’m going, but I don’t know how long it will take me to get there,” Hawley teased. “Assuming that the price of execution and the audience stays commensurate, we could go for as long as we want. If we nurture them, these franchises can give back for a very long time.”
It sounds like Hawley has a roadmap, but he’s letting the audience and the scale of production determine how far the journey goes.
As for Dinklage, Hawley is keeping details under wraps, but he didn’t downplay the importance of the role. He confirmed the actor will take on “a major role” in the ensemble, which should add a whole new dynamic to a series already packed with tension and intrigue.
Season 2 will also lean further into expanding the universe, with Hawley promising “more world building” as the story grows, and if you’re wondering who else might be joining the ride, Hawley says more casting announcements are on the way “soon.”
Between the expanded scope, a major new cast member, and a creative team clearly thinking beyond just the next season, Alien: Earth isn’t just continuing, it’s setting itself up to stick around.
