Noah Hawley's ALIEN Series at FX Gets an Official Title... ALIEN: EARTH

Noah Hawley’s Alien series, which is set up at FX, has completed production, and the official title has been revealed. That title is Alien: Earth.

The news was dropped by producer John Langraf and Hawley, who is the showrunner, with Hawley telling Variety: “We just wrapped production, so now I’m into the long post that gets into visual effects.”

He went on to tease: “It’s a very big show. It’s nice to have some time with it. The first year of anything, you want to feel like you’re not up against the wall in terms of time.

“I’ve seen four of the eight hours of director cuts and engaged in the process of figuring out, cinematically, what it wants to be. It’s one of my favorite parts of of making a show.”

Langraf went on to share his thoughts on the series saying: “We’re pretty bullish on Alien: Earth and we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, Alien: Earth is a returning television series, we want him to focus on on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of Fargo.”

The story is set three decades before the events of Ridley Scott's 1979 classic Alien and a few years before Prometheus. The series will find the characters "caught in a conflict with the beginning of artificial intelligence and the competition among developers and users."

Hawley previously said of the story: "It's set on Earth of the future. At this moment, I describe that as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone's going to monopolize electricity. We just don't know which one it is.”

He continued: “In the movies, we have this Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which is clearly also developing artificial intelligence-but what if there are other companies trying to look at immortality in a different way, with cyborg enhancements or transhuman downloads? Which of those technologies is going to win?"

This will be the first Alien project set on Earth, and it will blend “both the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the non-stop action of the second, it’s going to be a scary thrill ride that will blow people back in their seats.“

Hawley also talked about the project, saying: “It's about how we're trapped between the primordial past and the artificial intelligence of our future, where both [are] trying to kill us.

“It's set on Earth of the future. At this moment, I describe that as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone's going to monopolize electricity. We just don't know which one it is."

He went on to share: “I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What happens if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate.”

The show also stars Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther (The End of the F*cking World) as the male lead, a soldier named CJ, with Samuel Blenkin (Black Mirror) as another main character named Boy Kavalier, a CEO. Additional cast members include Essie Davis (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) as Dame Silvia, Timothy Olyphant, and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) as Slightly.
