NOSFERATU Director Says Film Will Take Vampires Back to Their Roots - "We Deserve a Scary, Smelly Corpse Again"
Nosferatu director Robert Eggers is promising horror fans that his upcoming remake of the horror classic will make vampires scary again.
We’ve only seen a few quick glimpses of Bill Skarsgard's new take on the vampire Count Orlok, but it sounds like our first proper look at the ancient blood-sucking creature will be worth the wait.
During a recent interview with Total Film, the filmmaker teased: "We’ve gone all the way to Edward Cullen, where vampires are not scary.
“So how do we go in the complete opposite direction of that? Vampires were scary enough that people used to dig up corpses and chop them into bits and set them on fire.”
He added, "I think we deserve a scary, smelly corpse again,” and I couldn’t agree more. I hope that he delivers on that promise!
The movie tells the story of the sinister vampire Count Orlok, who is played by Bill Skarsgård in the movie.
Nosferatu tells the dark and twisted tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.
When previously talking about the movie, Eggers said: “It’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie. And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.”
The movie also stars Emma Corrin (Deadpool 3), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), Simon McBurney (The Conjuring 2) and Ralph Ineson (The Witch).
I also included a new image from the film below.
The movie will be released in theaters on December 25, 2024.
