OBSESSION Star Wants More Than a Sequel, and Her Idea Is Exactly What Horror Fans Need
Horror has been on an incredible run, and it's been a blast watching original movies break through in a big way. One of the biggest success stories of the year has been Obsession, the breakout horror hit from Curry Barker.
The film crushed at the box office, won over critics, and quickly became one of the most talked-about horror movies of 2026. Naturally, fans have been asking the same question ever since the credits rolled. What's next?
While plenty of people are hoping for a direct sequel, Inde Navarrette, who played Nikki, has a completely different idea for expanding the world of Obsession, and it's exactly the direction I'd love to see the franchise take.
Speaking with Nylon, Navarrette shared her thoughts on where the story could go next: “I think the beautiful thing about it is that there is no sequel. I think it’d be cool if Curry did the anthology series that he was talking about, where each is a different wish. Then I could watch and not get scared by myself.”
That's such a fun concept. Instead of returning to Nikki's story, the franchise could evolve into an anthology centered on the mysterious One Wish Willows.
Every new movie, or even a television series, could introduce completely different characters making completely different wishes, only to discover the horrifying consequences that come with them.
It's a format that opens the door to endless storytelling possibilities while keeping the mythology fresh.
Barker has already shown he's willing to stick to his creative instincts. He previously revealed that he was offered money to change Obsession's ending and give Bear some redemption, but he chose to stay true to the story he wanted to tell.
That decision paid off, and if he believes this world works best as an anthology rather than a traditional sequel, I'm all for it. Navarrette clearly feels the same way.
The possibilities are almost limitless. Imagine a story about someone wishing for fame, only to become trapped by the terrifying reality of public obsession. Or maybe someone makes a wish out of revenge, greed, or jealousy, unleashing something far darker than they ever expected. Every wish could introduce a new nightmare while exploring different corners of this creepy universe.
That kind of approach could keep Obsession from falling into the same sequel formula we've seen so many horror franchises repeat over the years.
Considering the film's massive box office success and the overwhelmingly positive response from audiences, it feels like more Obsession is only a matter of time. The challenge for Barker will be delivering another story that's just as surprising, scary, and genuinely funny as the first film.
If that next chapter happens to be an anthology built around the One Wish Willows, sign me up.
