Official LANTERNS Set Photo Teases Aaron Pierre' s John Stewart and Kelly Macdonald's Sheriff Kerry

DC Studios has dropped a behind-the-scenes image from the highly anticipated Lanterns series, giving fans their first real glimpse at the Green Lanterns’ world within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.

The series is shaping up to be a gritty blend of crime drama and cosmic superhero storytelling, with intergalactic officers unraveling a murder mystery in the American heartland.

The newly surfaced image spotlights Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry. Pierre steps into the role of the Green Lantern recruit, while Macdonald makes her debut as the small-town sheriff.

Production stills, caught on monitors during filming, reveal the characters in a dim, industrial set space that suggests a moody, grounded aesthetic.

Macdonald officially joined the cast in October 2024. Sheriff Kerry is described as “a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town,” a character whose strength comes from a difficult past. Within the story, she crosses paths with Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, and also serves as his love interest.

Director James Hawes offered insight into the series’ tone during a previously interview, saying: “Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof, you know they have done things like Ozark, True Detective and the script has got such wit. So much character and it’s like a buddy cop movie and I have talked about this in sort of True Detective, Fargo, No Country for Old Men naturalistic. It’s a buddy cop movie and somebody flies.”

Showrunner Chris Mundy promised that Lanterns would stay true to its comic book roots while elevating the storytelling. “Lanterns would not sacrifice the magic of the source material.”

Mundy added that the goal was “to deliver a layered drama – rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building – that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion.”

The creative team behind the show includes Damon Lindelof, Tom King, and Hawes steering the ship. The supporting cast includes Garrett Dillahunt as William Macon, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, and Paul Ben-Victor as Antaan.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this show turns out!
