Olivia Colman To Join Marvel's SECRET INVASION Disney+ Series
Best Actress Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown) is in negotiations to join Marvel’s Secret Invasion series currently in development at Disney+. If she ends up joining the project, she will join previously announced cast members Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Kingsley Ben-Adir.
There’s no word on who exactly she’ll be playing, but Jackson will reprise the role of Nick Fury, while Mendelsohn will be back in the role of the Skrull character Talos. Ben-Adir will play the main villain in the story. It’ll be interesting to see what character Marvel wants Colman to play.
The Secret Invasion series “centers on Fury and Talos — who first met during the events of ‘Captain Marvel’ — and a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.”
The story in the comics sees the Skrulls invade Earth posing as Avengers with their shape changing abilities in an effort to take them down and take over the world. The seeds for the Secret Invasion storyline in the MCU were initially planted in Captain Marvel, which is the film that introduced the Skrulls into the franchise. Then you’ve got Fury working with them in outer space. Kevin Feige previously teased what we can expect from the series, saying:
"Well, there were more characters in the Secret Invasion comic series than there were in Endgame so, no. It's not that but it very much is a showcase for Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelson and tapping into the paranoia elements of the Secret Invasion comic series that was great with the twists and turns that that took. So, that's certainly our focus more than, 'Can we cram in more characters than Endgame? like publishing?'"
Kyle Bradstreet is attached to write and executive produce the series.
