ONE PIECE Season 2 Hires PERCY JACKSON Writer as Co-Showrunner
Netflix has hired Joe Tracz to serve as its new co-showrunner for its live-action One Piece Season 2. Tracz most recently worked on Disney+’s adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Tracz will work alongside co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer Matt Owens on the show, which is based on Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga.
Steven Maeda, who developed the series with Owens and was co-showrunner on Season 1, has stepped down as co-showrunner, but will continue to serve as an executive producer on the series.
Owens said in a statement: “Joe has brought a wealth of enthusiasm and experience into our second season that will help take One Piece to new heights. We’re incredibly lucky to have him as a co-captain of this ship. The best crew on the seas grows larger!”
Tracz added: “I’ve been lucky to work on big adaptations of several beloved series, and they don’t come bigger or more beloved than One Piece.”
He continued: “I’m a huge fan of Oda-san’s incredible imagination and I was blown away by what the live-action team created in Season One. So it’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant Season Two.”
One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his pirate crew as they explore a fantastical world of endless oceans and exotic islands in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King.
The other main characters include Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson), and Sanji (Taz Skylar).
I’m such a huge fan of how the first season of the series turned out, and I hope that Season 2 delivers the same level of quality.
