Netflix Officially Renews ONE PIECE For Season 2!
With the live-action One Piece series being a huge hit with audiences, we all knew that Netflix would renew the show for a second season. Well, now it’s official! Netflix made the announcement on social media with an amusing video and a caption that reads: “ATTN STRAW HAT CREW. ONE PIECE HAS BEEN RENEWED!!!”
I couldn’t be happier about this! I have nothing but great and positive things to say about this show, and the creative team recently said that they easily have six seasons of story to tell, but they also hope that they will go to 12! There’s just so much story to tell with these characters because there’s so much story in the source material!
Executive producer Marty Adelstein previously said that scripts were already finished for a second season. Becky Clements added that a second season could be ready “somewhere between a year and 18 months” from now. Of course, that all depends on the actors’ strike.
One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his pirate crew as they explore a fantastical world of endless oceans and exotic islands in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King. The other main characters include Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson), and Sanji (Taz Skylar).
Steven Maeda is a co-writer, showrunner, and executive producer on the series along with Matt Owens, who is also co-writing and executive producing. The series also stars Morgan Davies (The Evil Dead) as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino (The Sex Lives of College Girls) as Alvida, Aidan Scott (Action Point) as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward (Hacks) as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III (Ozark) as Arlong, and Vincent Regan (Troy) as Garp.
The 10-episode series comes from Tomorrow Studios and One Piece publisher Shueisha.
