Original DAREDEVIL Showrunner Blasts Studios That Cancel Projects After They've Been Shot
Original Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight is not happy with the current trend of studios scrapping film and TV projects after they have already been filmed.
AMC recently canceled two TV shows that had been shot already including the second season of 61st Street, which was scrapped after production had been completed. Then there was Invitation to a Bonfire which had filmed four out of six episodes. There are also rumors that Marvel may have canceled the Echo series after it completed shooting.
HBO Max also had a run of cancelations including the Batgirl movie and Scoob! Holiday Haunt, while multiple TV shows and movies have been removed from the streamer entirely, including Westworld, The Nevers, and a combined hundreds of episodes of classic animated shows including Looney Tunes and The Flintstones.
DeKnight is now blasting this trend, saying on Twitter: "The WGA, DGA, and SAG-AFTRA need to crack down on this practice during their next respective negotiations. Pull that shit, face HUGE financial penalties paid to the cast, crew, and creatives. Watch it stop real quick."
It’ll be interesting to see if the unions will eventually crack down on this. It’s just so weird to me that some of these projects are being scrapped because it’s a waste of time, talent, and money.
