Original GEARS OF WAR Designer Wants Chris Pratt to Stay Away From the Netflix Film, But Offers Other Suggestions
Earlier this week it was reported that Netflix was developing a film and an adult-themed animated TV series based on the hit video game franchise Gears of War. It was exciting news for fans! The game's original designer, Cliff Bleszinski, has shared his opinions on who he’d like to see cast in the film and who shouldn't.
A Gears of War movie has been in and out of development for years in Hollywood and over that time, actors such as Dave Bautista and Terry Crews were campaigning to be in the film. Bautista would be great in the role as Marcus Fenix, and Crews would make a perfect Augustus Cole.
As for what Bleszinski thinks about the cast, he shared on Twitter:
"Fun fact: Carlos Ferro was cast [in the Gears of War games] after I had played a recent Splinter Cell game at the time and the Latino bad guys sounded like Speedy Gonzalez and I was like WTF is this. Let's get someone who is Latino who has a subtle accent FFS."
Bleszinski also said The Boys actor Karl Urban would be "fuckin' diabolical" as Marcus, and that Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds would be '“perfect" as Baird. But, one person that he does not want to see in the movie is Chris Pratt. I guess he’s not a fan! He said: "Oh and keep Chris Pratt away from the Gears franchise, please, FFS."
He later responded to a fan suggestion that Pratt could play "every Carmine brother," characters who have become a running gag in the series by always dying unceremoniously, and he responded to that saying, "that.... might work."
What do you think about Blexinski’s casting suggestions? What do you think about his distaste for Chris Pratt?
