Oscar Nuñez Returns as Oscar Martinez in Peacock’s THE OFFICE Follow-Up

Oscar Nuñez is stepping back into the shoes of Oscar Martinez for Peacock’s highly anticipated follow-up to The Office. While this new mockumentary series isn’t a direct reboot, it takes place in the same universe as the oroiginal series and Nuñez is the first confirmed original cast member making an appearance.

Though he won’t be the central character, it’s reported that Nuñez’s return was planned from the beginning. Exactly how Oscar fits into the new story remains to be seen, but with Greg Daniels at the helm alongside Michael Koman (Nathan for You), it’s safe to expect some clever continuity.

Daniels has previously been hesitant about reviving The Office, feeling that most character arcs had reached their natural conclusions. However, sources close to the production say that if he were to revisit any character, Oscar Martinez would be the one.

Interestingly, producers reportedly intended to keep Nuñez's involvement a surprise, but the news leaked out.

The series is reportedly titled The Paper, and it shifts focus to a struggling Midwestern newspaper, where a desperate publisher attempts to breathe new life into the publication by enlisting volunteer reporters.

The documentary crew that once chronicled life at Dunder Mifflin is now capturing this newsroom saga, potentially explaining how Oscar Martinez ends up in the mix.

The show boasts an ensemble cast that includes Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars), Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), Chelsea Frei (Poker Face), Melvin Gregg (Snowfall), Gbemisola Ikumelo (Black Ops), Alex Edelman (Just For Us), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), and Tim Key (The Witchfinder).

A lineup of guest stars includes Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts.

While Nuñez is currently the only confirmed returning Office alum, the series’ shared universe leaves the door open for more familiar faces to appear.
