O'Shea Jackson Jr. Discusses Lucasfilm's OBI-WAN KENOBI Series Saying Fans "Don't Even Know What's Gonna Go Down!"
O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton) is set to appear in Lucasfilm’s upcoming live-action Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series has already wrapped production, and the actor is eager to talk about it! However, he’s not going out and spoiling anything, he’s just expressing his excitement for the series and pumps it up for the fans telling Screen Rant:
"It's so hard. It's so hard because like anything that I'll read or see on the internet, I just want to just be like, 'You don't even know, you don't even know what's gonna go down!' All these guesses and people going down the wrong rabbit hole, it's funny to watch. But as soon as I get the green light, I might do a two-hour special talking about everything."
The story begins 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
The series also stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
When previously talking about the series, McGregor said, "There's a hunger for this character to come back. The fans have been waiting long enough, you know, and the most beautiful thing of all is that it's brought me back together with Hayden (Christensen)... [We'll] have another swing at each other. It might be quite satisfying for everybody. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed making it!"
Director Deborah Chow added, "Something that is extremely exciting is the return of Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. We are bringing back Hayden Christensen to reprise the role of Darth Vader. We couldn't tell the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi without addressing Anakin or Vader. " She went on to say, "This is quite a dark time that we're coming into with him," Chow explains. "Just being a Jedi is not safe. There are Jedi hunters out there. That's the starting place for our story; the interesting thing is going to be where it goes from there."
When talking about the reunion of McGregor and Christensen, Kathleen Kennedy shared, "The thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited. They hadn't seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realising how important Star Wars was to each of them. It was the beginning of their careers."
Hossein Amini (Drive, McMafia) and Joby Harold (John Wick 3, Awake, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) wrote the show. Obi-Wan will arrive on Disney+ in 2022.
