OUTER BANKS Season 5 Trailer Teases the Pogues’ Final Ride, a Quest for Revenge, and the Destruction of The Twinkie

Netflix has dropped the first teaser trailer for the fifth and final season of Outer Banks, and shows fans that the end of the road is going to be an emotional one.

The footage offers a look at the Pogues’ last adventure together, a mission fueled by grief, revenge, and one final shot at the freedom they’ve been chasing since the series began.

But before any of that, fans are forced to witness something almost as heartbreaking as losing a beloved character. The teaser shows John B., played by Chase Stokes, watching in horror as Cleo, played by Carlacia Grant, blows up The Twinkie, the iconic van that has been with the crew through countless adventures goes up in flames.

Netflix also confirmed that Season 5 will premiere on August 20, giving fans a date to circle on the calendar after nearly two years of waiting since Season 4 debuted in October 2024.

Unlike the previous season, which was split into two parts released four weeks apart, the final season will arrive all at once. All 10 episodes will drop on the same day, allowing fans to binge the entire story in one sitting if they choose.

The final season picks up after the devastating events in Morocco that left the Pogues shattered following JJ’s death. Fans will remember Kiara’s heartbreaking response in the Season 4 finale when she summed up the group's next objective with a single word: “Revenge,”

The newly released teaser shows exactly where that mission is headed. According to Netflix’s official synopsis:

“It finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats.

“With Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane) still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts — and an uneasy alliance with Rafe (Drew Starkey) — to keep from falling apart for good.

“Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve been chasing since the beginning. It’s the Pogues against the world as they seek to avenge their best friend and bring it on home…one final time.”

The trailer offers glimpses of the crew hunting down Chandler Groff, JJ’s biological father and killer, while also honoring their fallen friend. Along the way, viewers can expect the high-stakes action, exotic locations, and dangerous treasure-hunting escapades that have become staples of the series. Fittingly, the teaser closes things out with the tagline: “One Last Ride.”

Netflix also unveiled new key art for the season featuring the surviving Pogues, John B., Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo, alongside the familiar rallying cry that has defined the series from the start: “Pogues For Life.”

The final season stars Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Grant, Drew Starkey, and J. Anthony Crane, with Austin North returning as Topper, Fiona Palomo as Sofia, and Cullen Moss as Shoupe.

As the series prepares to wrap up its run, creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke previously promised fans that the ending will deliver the closure they’ve been hoping for, saying: “when we get to the end, I think everyone’s going to be satisfied that we bring everything home and all the stories are wrapped up.”

That’s certainly the goal for a show that has become one of Netflix’s biggest success stories. Now the countdown is on for one final adventure. The Pogues have lost a friend, they’re out of options, and the world seems determined to keep them down.
