PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Reboot Casts Mythic Quest Star Chase Yi in Lead Role

The next chapter of the Paranormal Activity franchise has found one of its stars. According to Deadline, Chase Yi, who fans will recognize from Mythic Quest, has landed a lead role in Paramount Pictures and Blumhouse's upcoming Paranormal Activity movie.

While the casting is exciting, details about Yi's character are still being kept under wraps, and the story itself remains a mystery.

The film will be directed by Ian Tuason, whose feature debut, Undertone, earned attention in the horror world. This will mark the eighth film in the Paranormal Activity franchise, with a theatrical release currently set for May 21, 2027.

Although Paramount and Blumhouse aren't saying much about the plot just yet, Tuason has already teased one intriguing element of his approach to the franchise. While previously talking about the film, he explained how modern technology will shape the scares, saying:

“Technology — camera technology — has advanced to a point where it’s become a big part of the film and what I want to do there.”

Every entry of the franchise has leaned into the technology of its era, from home video cameras to security systems and smart devices, so it'll be interesting to see how Tuason pushes that concept even further.

It's also a full-circle moment for the filmmaker, as the original Paranormal Activity served as an inspiration for Undertone.

Created by Oren Peli, Paranormal Activity first terrified audiences in 2007. Made on a tiny budget, the supernatural horror film became a massive box office success and launched one of horror's biggest modern franchises.

Across seven films, the series has earned nearly $900 million worldwide, proving audiences still love a good night of unexplained bumps, strange shadows, and demonic hauntings.

Of course, longtime fans are already wondering if the infamous demon Toby will make a return. There's no word on that yet, but chances are we'll be hearing a lot more as production moves forward.

The new film has an impressive producing team as well. Peli returns to produce through Solana Films, while James Wan and Jason Blum are producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
