Patrick Dempsey Offers an Optimistic Update on Disney's ENCHANTED 2
For those of you still hoping to see that Enchanted sequel happen, Patrick Dempsey has some encouraging words regarding that for you.
Disney’s Disenchanted has been in development for years and a lot of people are wondering if it will ever actually happen. All of the actors want to do it, but it’s been eleven years since the first movie was released.
The last things we heard about the movie was that the script was completed, and that was nine months ago. We also know that Adam Shankman (Hairspray) has been set to direct it.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dempsey confirmed that Shankman and the film's creative team are "in the process of working on the book, the lyrics and the musical aspects." He went on to add:
"We'll see what happens. I think it's such a beloved movie we need to make sure it's right before we move forward. And certainly, Amy was remarkable in that film and she's an incredible actress and James Marsden as well. We'll see, I hope it can live up to what we did originally, that's the important thing. If it happens, then we do it."
So, the sequel is most definitely still in the works. The actor went on to explain that the most challenging part of making sequel to Enchanted is making sure that the quality is as high as the original. Dempsey still has yet to sign on for the film, but he’s interested in returning:
"… we've been talking about it and I'm just waiting for them to go through the process. It's a tough one to redo so well see… A lot of people come up to me [asking about Enchanted] and they always ask for the chipmunk."
When previously talking about the film, the director said that it would follow Giselle 10 years later going, “What is happily ever after?” He also explained that there will be more songs than the first movie. As for Dempsey’s character Robert, the actor explains where we might find him in the sequel:
"He probably 10 years older and [Giselle and Robert] are still together. They have a child together and I think they are battling what it means to be getting older and I think she wants to go back to Andalasia so she doesn't have to age. I think that's what it is, I don't know but we will see."
I actually enjoyed Enchanted and it would be fun to see a sequel, if it actually ever happens. What are your thoughts on Disenchanted?
