Patrick Stewart Discusses PICARD Season 3 and Teases Details on Worf and Beverly Crusher
One of the most exciting aspects of Star Trek: Picard Season 3 is the fact that it’s going to reunite Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) with his U.S.S. Enterprise-D crew members from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Picard will once again reunite with Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), who appeared in the first season of Picard, and it also featured Data (Brent Spiner). But, now he’ll be joined by LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forg, Michael Dorn as Worf, Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker, Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher, and Jeri Ryan as Commander Seven of Nine.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Patrick Stewart teases what we can expect from the return of Warf and Crusher. He explains Picard and Crusher haven't seen in other in a long time, and she has a surprise for him when they reunite.
"He felt abandoned by Crusher — she just disappeared out of his life. He adored her and that was never resolved. [But she has a] surprise, when she appears, that thrills and then enrages him."
It’ll be interesting to see what that surprise is! As for Worf, according to Stewart, he has a new outlook on life that involves practicing pacifism and how his new personality is delightful:
"The change to his personality is one of the most delightful things this season. He becomes increasingly complex, where in Next Generation you always knew what [gruff] response you'd get from him."
Stewart goes on to say that this final season of the series brings closure to the crew's saga for both the cast and the fans.
"I'm excited about [how Season 3] deals with the Next Generation cast saying goodbye to Star Trek. I know that's going to mean a great deal to fans."
So, I guess that means we’re not going to see that Star Trek movie that The Next Generation cast were all up for doing. But, it was previously reported that the series finale will pass the baton to another generation. This bit of news comes from showrunner Terry Matalas, who said that the season will feature a moment that will hand the reins off to this new generation.
The whole goal of this final season of Picard, though, was to make it feel like a continuation of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Matalas previously expressed his excitement about reuniting the crew, saying:
"I remember watching the premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction. So, it's most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise. It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I can't wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!"
Star Trek: Picard Season 3 premieres on Paramount+ on February 16th.
